I've been wanting to make note of this group of individuals who were marrying another relative with the same surname for a long time. I finally figured out how I wanted to lay things out in an orderly way to keep track of the different dynamics of the core family groups (i.e. the parents of the groom and bride).
So, the research is regarding a Misseri marrying another Misseri. There is a small group that did just that and I've wanted to know what cousin relationship they were to each other. I am hoping that they are at least second cousins, but I am not too hopeful because I know the core families pretty well after researching my Misseri line for more than 15 years. The family surname, Misseri, in this article can all be traced back to Carini in the province of Palermo. The baptism records in Carini are amazing and can help you trace your family back to the early 1500's, which is why I can say that all the Misseri's in the Western part of Sicily all lead to Carini.
I've made a simple chart showing the groom and bride with the names of their parents along with their relationship to each other. The key to viewing this chart is to look in the middle for the groom and bride, then look outwards to see the parents.
A few take aways regarding the core families: three of the seven couples were from the same set of parents: Antonino Misseri / Maria Alfonsa Tumminello, with all of them being brides. Also, Angelo Misseri / Francesca Paola Magnasco had a son and a daughter marrying another Misseri; in addition to Cesare Misseri / Francesca Misseri had two sons that married Misseri daughters. So, between the three sets of parents, that accounts for five of the seven couples. To me, that is very interesting. The three core families were closely connected though several generations. Cesare Misseri / Francesca Misseri were the only Misseri groom/bride that had children who married another Misseri. Confusing, yes (but please see the family tree charts below)! Ferdinando Misseri / Maria Grazia Magnasco are the parents of Vito and Giuseppe whose offspring married each other. There is one family that is not connected to the larger Misseri Family Tree, yet. Specifically, I haven't been able to find a marriage record for Cesare Misseri / Giovanna Misseri, at this point I don't know either of their parents' names. So, if you descend from this family, please get in touch with me so I can connect them to the main family tree.
But one couple has brought many challenges when researching the records from the Palermo province, and that is because of their similar first names: Francesco Paolo and Francesca Paola. That's right a Francesco Paolo Misseri marrying his niece named Francesca Paola Misseri. (I'm not sure how the Catholic church allowed that wedding to happen, but I have the records to prove it). Whew, that will keep you on your toes as you are reading the Italian records to make sure the person's name ends with either an 'o' and an 'a'!
